X (Twitter) removed support for NFT avatars

X (Twitter) has silently removed the ability to set NFT as a profile picture, TechCrunch reports. Also, all mention of the ability to install NFT avatars and instructions related to this have been removed from the support page for premium users.

In January 2022, X announced that holders of a paid Twitter Blue subscription could set an NFT as their profile photo. Such images are visually different from ordinary avatars and consist of a hexagonal frame instead of a classic round one. To install an avatar, it was necessary to connect your crypto-wallet to the platform.

Those who managed to use the function still have hexagonal NFT avatars. It is not clear whether X should remove them in the future or revert the feature.
