Why freelancing is becoming more and more popular in Ukraine

Freelancehunt conducted research among professionals to find out how freelancing affected their lives and development during the war, and why this type of activity is becoming increasingly popular. We share the results with you.

How freelancing has influenced the life and development of performers

First of all, it is worth noting a fairly high percentage of freelancers who are ready to recommend to their friends and acquaintances to switch to freelancing.

Among the respondents, 71.03% of performers indicated that they would advise their relatives and friends to work on freelance, and 6.16% have already transferred everyone to this type of employment. Only 22.80% of respondents answered that they did not want to advise switching to freelancing.

For many, freelancing became, without exaggeration, a lifeline during the war. It allows not only to earn money, but also to study, develop, travel and feel emotionally comfortable, how to compare with office work.

It is worth noting the high demand for freelancing among performers who had not previously registered with us on the service and came to work only during the war. Among those who participated in the study, there were 40.67%. The possibility of working remotely was also mentioned by those who had a registered profile, but by the time the war began, they were not actively freelancing — 16.13%.

63.77% noted that with the transition to freelancing, they became much more efficient in managing their time. For many performers, a free schedule and freedom is a strong motivation to stay freelance.

“I independently control all 24 hours of my time, do not depend on the employer, office slavery from 9 to 18, but I myself choose with whom to cooperate and when,” users of the service indicate.

Why people go freelancing

Money, freedom, free time are the top 3 reasons why people want to try freelancing. Further details:

  • The desire to increase their earnings – 27.38% of respondents.
  • The ability to have more flexible schedules and more control over your time – 23.97%.
  • More freedom to choose who to work with and what projects to complete – 21.34%.
  • Work with clients from all over the world – 14.15%.
  • Get more time for family activities, hobbies and other important things – 13.16%.

How experts see the future of freelancing

According to our freelancers, the market in Ukraine will grow as a result of the development of digital technologies and the emergence of new specializations. But at the same time, the level of competition will also increase.

“Freelancing for specialists is an opportunity to determine for themselves what to do, when and at what cost. It is these 3 factors that increase the demand for remote work among performers, and the war has become a catalyst accelerating the development of the freelance market in Ukraine. In the next few years, we expect the market to grow several times due to an increase in demand among small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine and the world of talented Ukrainian performers,” says Valentin Zyuzin, head of Freelancehunt.
