WhatsApp was fined 500,000 rubles for violating the rules of activity in the Russian Federation

The Moscow World Court fined the WhatsApp messenger for refusing to comply with the rules of operation in Russia. This is reported by TARS with reference to the press service of the Tagansky Court of Moscow.

“By the decision of the justice of the peace of judicial district No. 371 of the Tagansky district of Moscow, the company WhatsApp LLC was found guilty of committing an administrative offense provided for in part 1.1 of Article 13.31 CPA of the Russian Federation. She was sentenced to an administrative fine in the amount of 500,000 rubles,” the press service said.

This provision of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for liability for repeated failure by the organizer of the dissemination of information on the Internet to notify the authorized federal body of the executive power about the initiation of its activities.

In August 2023, Roskomnadzor prosecuted WhatsApp under this article, but the company did not eliminate the offense, and then the protocol was sent to the court to decide on the question of repeated punishment.
