Unsqueeze is a Metal-based video scaler with 8K+ resolution support

Developer Finn Voorhees has released a new video scaling app that works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Unsqueeze is designed to increase the resolution of your videos while “preserving sharpness and detail,” reports 9to5 mac.com.

Unsqueeze runs on Apple’s Metal Framework on Apple Silicon, which makes it significantly faster than other applications on Apple Silicon.

“Unsqueeze increases the resolution of your videos while maintaining clarity and detail. Unsqueeze uses the latest and greatest scaling algorithms and runs entirely on the GPU, producing high-quality video faster than other scaling tools.” – the message says.

The app works offline and can upscale your video to 8K+ resolution. It works with all the most common video file types and even supports batch upscaling of multiple videos at once.

Unsqueeze is available on the App Store as a free download with support for video upscaling up to 5K resolution. There is a one-time universal purchase of $10 that unlocks Unsqueeze XL, which supports upscaling to 8K+. The Upscale iPad version will also be available on Vision Pro from day one.

Additionally, developer Finn Voorhees is working on a Castaway app that will enable HDMI input on the Vision Pro using a USB capture card and an iPad.
