Tricks Employment in IT

Tricks Employment in IT

Friends, I want to immediately announce the link of my articleIt is not about how to deceive an employer, but how sometimes you can and must deceive in order to get an interview and get a job, and then work honestly.

And the second message is more for recruiters and those who conduct those interviews.

My opinions are based solely on personal experience of working in IT, for 10 years in such companies as: Mail Ru Group, Badoo, Rambler Group, Positive Technologies, Wildberries, two Banks and other large companies.

I never worked more than a year in one place, and sometimes I worked two jobs at the same time and officially, without a higher education.

Starting with a technical support position at the age of 20, finishing as a DevOps team leader at the age of 32, and in general, this is probably the most interesting direction for me: Kubernetes, containerization, automation and optimization of development processes and DevOps practices.

How to start in IT, without education and experience…

Probably, many residents of Russia have heard that ITishniks make a lot of money sitting at home remotely, some are simply angry and angry, but they themselves continue to work in their field at a job they do not like, and others want to try, but they do not have the opportunity to enter a university, and in their there is no need for IT specialists in the city or region as a whole. For example, one of my acquaintances lives in a distant region and within a radius of 500 km there are not even nearby vacancies, educational institutions, and from work only the Agricultural / State Farm, fields and meadows.

I will not write about the futility of paid courses in this case, and in general I left the topic… Therefore) It is easiest to start with technical support, either remotely or in the company, you yourself studied but without actual experience, few people need youto get experience, you need to start working, but what if you don’t have experience?

1) Let’s look at the vacancies for which you think you have enough minimum knowledge for the job, see what knowledge is required there.

2) We look at the resumes of people with work experience that correspond to these vacancies.

3) We make a conditional resume for the vacancies you are interested in, taking someone else’s resume as a basis, be sure to write there any completed higher education, be sure to write there 1.2 years of work experience in any little-known company in the position, which you want

4) We respond with your resume to the vacancies that are of interest to you.

5) Think in advance of options for answers to questions that eichars may ask you, such as: why did you leave your last place of work, how much do you want to receive, what did you like and dislike at your previous place of work and other banal questions.

6) If you managed and passed the first call with an echar, you will be called to those interviews. If you’re just at the beginning of your career, maybe you’ll screw up the first 10+ of those interviews, look silly, silly, and not so much)

But these 10+ interviews will give you the bottom line, And the questions you are asked, 90% of all technical questions for the positions: technical support, system administrators and DevOps engineers are the same. There are, of course, exceptions and really interesting interviews, and I had quite a few of them, but most often they ask the same questions, which you can write down for yourself, and the answers not to invent, but to understand themread, watch videos, spend a week, a month and continue to pass the interview

Firstly, you will deepen your initial knowledge in this way, and secondly, you will be able to get a job, and it is much easier to learn while working.

Why is it necessary to lie about a higher education if there is none, or experience?

Your resumes are primarily reviewed by eichars, not technical specialists, although there are exceptions, and they will most likely not even pay attention to a resume that states that there is no higher education, and if there is no experience.

Of course, this applies only to commercial companies, in the public sector it is useless to respond to vacancies with such an approach, you will waste your time.

And in fact, for the most part, commercial companies don’t care if you have a higher education or not, but experience is extremely important, and if you don’t have it, it’s better to write it, they probably won’t check it, you’re already in the starting positions for sure you could work under a DPG contract, you could work part-time, in gray, in white, even in green, come up with your own story, as long as your imagination is enough. The main thing is that you have at least minimal knowledge for work, if you are hired and you can grow and develop calmly.

About tougher tricks, like working on two jobs in parallel:

Here, in fact, everything depends on you and what you really want from work: to be a good specialist, to gradually grow and develop, to be in demand and a real specialist.

Or you have your own goal and a deep understanding of plans for the futureand all the rest are methods of achieving this goal. And then, it doesn’t matter how many times you lie, how many jobs you change and what tricks you have to resort to. For example, the goal is to earn N – money in 5 years.

Working at one job, you will most likely be promoted 2-3 times maximum during this time, and in money you will win + 50% maximum from the initial salary.

But you can get a job in technical support, for example, at first, even with zero knowledge, in a normal company if you work day and night, delve into all issues, communicate with administrators, try to deploy something yourself at home, and not just perform your tasks.

After a year of such work, hard work and perseverance, you can try to transfer to another company to admin, and this is already a minimum + 100% of money before salary. Next, see which technologies are of interest to you, and try to delve into them as much as possible, then change your job after a year to a higher position or to a higher salary position.

I can say from personal experienceThat this case is as much work as possible, and after gaining experience in one job, you can go to a higher position in a year, but to another company. First, when changing jobs, you will have a three-month trial period, during which you are usually not attacked, but immersed in project, usually this time you can work for 2-3 hours a day, and at other times do your own business, or a second job, your project, and anything else in general)

Here the question arises, who needs an employee who changes jobs every year, if you have 3 years of experience and you have changed 3 places of work, it will still pass, but if you have 10 years of experience and 15 places of work, how…)))

As I did, I actually worked in all the companies I listed at the beginning of the article, somewhere I worked for 8 months, and somewhere for 3, for some a year. But when I posted a new resume and looked for a new job, I always listed no more than 3-4 jobs per 10 years of experience.

And accordingly stretched the time of work, conditionally Badoo – 3 years, instead of a year, etc.

What we have as a matter of fact: it is bad to do so.

The scope of knowledge thanks to the experience of working in large top companies is huge, different stacks, teams, managers, atmosphere.

When you passed those interviews and submitted the documents for processing, I personally have never once in 10 years had a situation arise when they told me: Dear Dmytro, in your resume you listed 3 companies in which you worked, and in 33 … It was extremely rare for a situation to arise when, during registration, after the words: the diploma was forgotten when moving, it would be asked again, after starting work.

Conclusion

I do not encourage anyone to do so, and most will condemn such an approach.

Am I a good specialist after such manipulations? Undoubtedly yes, I have always tried to fill all the gaps in knowledge, delve deeper and understand perfectly what I am doing, because I am interested in it, my eyes are burning and I spend an endless amount of time on it. But I also love money and value time, so I never wanted to develop within the framework of one company, when you fill the gaps with a new workplace, you need to do tasks, there is a routine and gradual deepening of the topic, and it is much more important for me to study and deepen on my own . in what I am specifically interested in, and the main thing is that there is always a huge salary gain in a new place and a trial period during which you can spend time on yourself.

Am I a good employee for companies? Definitely NO, will I be hired after this article with my real name, 99% no.

Why did I write it then? So that there was no possibility of returning to employment, I went to my goal for a long time, and now you can burn bridges.
