There was a burnout. How did the coach help me and how can I cope without him? / Hebrew

After a year and a half of working in a managerial position, I felt what had happened – “burnout”.

The term is vague, I will describe my feelings. I was tired, I had no energy, vacations and weekends did not help. The mood depended on how smoothly everything was going at work. And in connection with known external circumstances, things go smoothly much less often. Work ceased to bring joy, as before. At some point, he began to bring this irritation home. And I understood that the thing is not in the place of work, but in me.

The company has a coach, I contacted him. First, I was interested in how coaching works, because there are also many myths about it. Secondly, there was a request.

How coaching helped

Everything genius is simple. The coach gave me the opportunity to purposefully talk to myself. Formulate what I want, why do I need it? What takes away my strength and mood.

Nothing complicated, but not that simple, unless I made it up myself. Talking to yourself about yourself is very different from talking to someone else about yourself.

Essence. What would put out the burnout, will overcome the lack of energy. I need to find things that will give me energy. Things that will make me feel good. Bullshit can happen at work every day, it’s impossible to control everything. You just need to find the tools that will get you back on track. It was my idea, not the coach’s, that’s important. We found some tools during the coaching process, and some were already invented afterwards. Based on the advice from the coach, notice what gives you energy, what improves your mood and repeat it. Pretty universal advice.

1. Change of situation

It so happened that I am rarely alone. A bunch of people at work, at home are smaller than people, but there are a couple of active animals. I want to change the environment and be alone. I came up with a plan to go to the city center (the office is a bit far away) once a week for lunch and visit a coffee shop or cafe. Have dinner or just drink coffee. A change of scenery in the middle of the week + a mini trip, perfectly dilutes the routine.

2. Physical activity

I wasn’t particularly good at sports and I’m a little over 30. I felt I had to. Then I still went to the doctor and he said that “it is very necessary!” I started working out and was shocked at how it could invigorate the head. You just need to find the right kind of sports activity. Don’t go to the gym, it can quickly discourage you, try cycling, tennis, table tennis, etc.

3. Reading

I love the feeling after reading a book. I like that I learn something new, I like that I got new information. Yes, you can get knowledge and watch a video or an audiobook. But books have a special charm for me. I used to do it not consistently. After the coaching, I decided to do it systematically, I made a schedule to read for an hour. And it gave me systemic satisfaction.

4. A fickle hobby

If you have a hobby that you do as much. Start doing them regularly. I have a problem with playing the guitar, I’ve been trying to learn to play it for 10 years, but because I don’t do it systematically, the success is so-so. As with sports and reading, I decided to do it systematically. And the results, which began to improve, give me strength. Maybe you have a similar hobby that you need to approach in a more organized way.

5. Playlist

A trifle or not. I caught myself thinking that there is music – which cheers me up and cheers me up, and there is my playlist, with which I go to work every day (it’s mostly grunge and something like that, not much fun). As a result, I made a special playlist for the trip to work. Works great for me.

PS The common denominator of all the fight against burnout in my case is productive rest. I used to just come home, lie down on the sofa and play PSation, I had no energy. But, unfortunately, after such a rest there was no strength.

All of these methods work for me, but I’m sure I’m not unique and something can help you too. If you have your own methods, please share in the comments.

If the reasons for your burnout are of a different nature, you can also contact a coach, together you can find a solution. And it is not so long and expensive. I needed one session to solve a specific task.
