Short description
A new software tool called Nvidia Power Management (NVPMM) allows users to set power consumption limits for Nvidia video cards in various programs on Windows PCs. The tool uses Nvidia-SMI and is a GUI for the command line, helping to easily set up Nvidia graphics cards for different use cases. The developer recommends using GPU-Z to get information about graphics card limitations before running NVPMM for the first time. Experts have found no malware in the tool’s code, but recommend using it at your own risk if users want to set consumption limits for games or use their video cards in “economy” mode.

A third-party Nvidia Power Management (NVPMM) utility has been released to set power consumption limits for Nvidia video cards in various programs on Windows PCs. The tool uses Nvidia-SMI (System Management Interface) and is actually a graphical interface for the command line and convenient settings in a few clicks of Nvidia graphics cards for different use cases.
On the dedicated forum Guru of 3D, the developer of the utility under the nickname Macer explained that he updates the project as feedback from users comes in. It has already added the ability to automatically apply video card power limits after an OS reboot, as well as import and save settings.
Macer clarified that the utility is written and compiled on Microsoft Visual Studio.NET. He explained that the utility cannot unlock exceeding the maximum power limit of the user’s video card, and the range of maximum and minimum power depends on the VBIOS of each adapter. The developer recommends using GPU-Z to get information about graphics card limitations before running NVPMM for the first time.
Experts found no malware in the Nvidia Power Management (NVPMM) code. They recommend using the utility at your own risk if users want to use their video cards in “economy” mode in normal programs and set consumption limits for games.
