The new startup of the former CEO of Google will create drones with AI. Why is Ukraine here?

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is investing the money earned at Google to finance a start-up to create strike drones based on artificial intelligence, Extreme.tech reports.

The existence of a new military project of the Schmidt drone became known earlier this month, but more details have now emerged.

The startup was hidden under a series of LLCs formerly known as Swift Beat Holdings, which itself was a subsidiary of Volya Robotics OÜ. Eric Schmidt is the sole owner of this firm.

Since then, Swift Beat has been renamed White Stork (a reference to the national bird of Ukraine – the white stork). Schmidt has met several times with military leaders since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

A recent Forbes report explains that White Stork aims to build strike drones that use artificial intelligence to identify and neutralize targets.

Schmidt reportedly wants to make the devices simple and inexpensive so they can be mass-produced and quickly distributed to soldiers.

Such drones will be able to operate regardless of communication and GPS interference, using AI to track targets.

It will be recalled that Google hired Eric Schmidt as CEO in 2001. He stepped down as CEO a few years later and became many billions of dollars richer.
