The Microsoft Excel web application can now export worksheets in CSV / Habr format

Excel for the web can now export spreadsheets in CSV format.

CSV is a text format designed to represent tabular data. A table row corresponds to a string of text that contains one or more fields separated by commas.

To export a file, Excel for the web users need to create a new or open an existing spreadsheet, click the File menu, click the Export button, and then click Download this sheet as CSV.

Microsoft notes that the ability to export to CSV allows:

  • store structured data in a readable format that can be easily backed up and retrieved;

  • transfer data between a spreadsheet application and a database management system;

  • exchange data between different programs that may not be directly compatible, such as CRM.

Microsoft recently added support for syncing data from Microsoft Forms quizzes and surveys with Excel for the web. Earlier, the company also refined the Catch Up feature for Excel, Word and PowerPoint web applications.

In October 2023, Microsoft announced a number of additions to the Excel web application. The list includes a new Insert Function dialog, as well as value viewing and monospaced font support for editing formulas.
