The Japanese decided to revive PDAs and developed something close to PDAs. Features of an unusual device
Flip-flops were once extremely popular. Many of us still have very warm feelings about them. But, unfortunately, they were completely replaced first by communicators, and then by smartphones. Sometimes various manufacturers make an attempt to revive the PDA era by releasing modern incarnations of devices of this type. Now the Japanese company Gloture has imagined a completely modern computer in a new/old form factor. Details – under the cat.
What kind of device is this?
The Japanese themselves called it NanoPC. This is not a desktop PC and a smartphone. Rather, something like a PDA with full-fledged Windows 11 “on board”. At the same time, the device is relatively productive for its size and allows you to run almost any Windows application.
The device is very small, fits in a pocket. On a PDA like the HP iPaq, it doesn’t look like a photo frame. However, the PDA is quite functional. It can be used as a desktop PC by connecting the appropriate accessories, including a mouse, keyboard, monitor. According to the manufacturer, the gadget is capable of running games, although not “harder” than Doom 3. With such a small size, the manufacturers simply did not manage to add discrete graphics. And there was no such goal.
Unfortunately, NanoPC is only available in Japan for now. The manufacturing company decided not to export the device, although, most likely, it will still be sold on eBay and a number of other resources – at least by the same Japanese. The price is not very low and is $585.
And here are the characteristics of the device:
To be honest, the “iron” of this device is no worse than that of some budget laptops. The price is not very low, but not thousands of US dollars either. You can use the device both at home and at home or on a business trip. As for the battery, its capacity is 2500 mAh. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not announced the battery life.
A little more about the benefits
The main thing is that with a very small volume, the device is really able to work with the current software. As for the processor, it is not that old. The Intel Celeron J4125 was released at the end of 2019 and was manufactured using a 14-nanometer process. This is a weak chip that heats up very little. At the same time, the operating frequency of the core is up to 2.7 GHz, there is a built-in UHD 600 graphics (up to 750 MHz).
The maximum amount of memory supported by this processor is set in the device – 8 GB. But this should be enough, since the performance of “difficult” tasks is by no means the horse of the new “CPC”. Well, for office tasks, various types of development or something else, the device is quite suitable.
Another advantage is a large number of interfaces. In a very small case, the developers put four USB 3.0 ports, a pair of HDMI for connecting to two large screens with a resolution of up to 4K, one USB-C, gigabit Ethernet and a card reader for microSD drives. There is also a wired module, including Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6, aka Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
In general, this is not at all the PDA that many Habra users were used to in the 2000s. But still, there is something like this class of devices, a device that may well turn out to be useful. Where and how do you think this nano-PC can be used?
