The general designer of RKK “Energia” presented a plan to create a reusable spacecraft for flights to ROS
General Designer of the Rocket and Space Corporation “Energia” Volodymyr Solovyov at the meeting of the Academic Readings on Cosmonautics in memory of S.P. Korolev (“Royal Readings”) presented a plan to create a spaceplane for flights to the Russian Orbital Station (ROS).
Solovyov’s presentation showed the configuration of the spaceplane. The craft is a composite airframe airframe aircraft with a swept-back V-wing. The general designer of RKK “Energia” said that the launch of the spaceplane into orbit will be carried out with the help of a medium-class launch vehicle. The crew of the ship will consist of four people.
According to Solovyov, one of the advantages of the spaceplane is the possibility of passing over any point of the Earth twice by changing the orbit method and reducing production costs due to the reusability of the ship.
Also at these “Royal Readings”, Volodymyr Solovyov said that the specialists of RKK “Energia” have started the creation of a cargo-passenger version of the “Orel” ship, intended for flights to ROS and beyond the limits of low Earth orbit. The first flight is expected in 2028-2029.
On January 23, 2023, Volodymyr Kozhevnikov, deputy general designer of RKK “Energia” and chief designer of ROS, announced that the first cosmonauts will work on the new ROS as early as 2028. According to him, the work on the draft project of the station has been completed, and the volume of the final document was 1.5 thousand volumes. The project has passed the examination, it is planned that it will be approved at the beginning of February.
