The first owners of the Tesla Cybertruck discovered that electric pickups are quickly covered with rust spots.
In early February 2024, first-time Tesla Cybertruck owners in the U.S. began reporting en masse that their new ultra-hard, cold-rolled stainless steel electric pickups were quickly rusting under normal operating conditions in warm climates. It turned out that this happens even after a light rain.
In response to customer complaints, Tesla explained that small orange rust marks can indeed appear on the Cybertruck in the rain, but this problem is eliminated by polishing the body or processing with special tools.
In the case of corrosion spots on the Cybertruck, Tesla service centers document it and ask owners to come back after a while to fix the problem. The manufacturer has not yet sent the instructions and the necessary tools to the service center, with which you can perform the proper repair and maintenance of the body for cleaning from rust.
In January, Tesla strongly warned customers in the owner’s manual that the Cybertruck’s stainless steel bodywork should be cleaned of any contamination to prevent deterioration and permanent damage due to corrosion built up over time.
“To prevent external damage, it is recommended to immediately remove any corrosive substances such as grease, oil, bird droppings, tree resin, dead insects, tar stains, road salt, etc. Don’t wait until your Cybertruck needs a full wash. If necessary, use ethyl alcohol to remove resin and grease stains, then immediately wash the area with water and “mild” soap to remove alcohol and residual dirt.”

Tesla clarified that the appearance of the Cybertruck body may change over time due to operating conditions and due to the characteristics of the materials, but this is normal. The manufacturer advises to constantly monitor the condition of the body. Tesla will not warrant replacement of Cybertruck parts that have become unusable due to damage caused by external factors such as dirt or road salt.
