The developers of the Vue framework reminded that the Vue 2 support cycle ends at the end of 2023.

The Vue blog said that the Vue 2 support cycle ends on December 31, 2023. Developers should consider upgrading to the current version.

Vue 2.0 was released in 2016. The project team said that most of the developers joined the community during the second version. The blog reported that the Vue 3 ecosystem is already ready for full use, so it’s time to focus the team’s attention on the development of the new version.

After December 31, 2023, Vue 2 will stop receiving new features, bug fixes, and updates. The outdated version of the framework will not be removed from the official distribution channels.

Additionally, the following npm packages will be marked as deprecated:

  • all major and minor versions of the Vue 2 core;

  • versions vue-routerthat support work only with Vue 2;

  • versions vuexwhich only support Vue 2.

For those who cannot migrate to Vue 3 in the near future, the developers recommend:

  • upgrade to version 2.7.16, which will be released at the end of this month and will contain several important fixes;

  • if the project has strict security requirements, you can switch to Vue 2 NES (Never-Ending Support) version from HeroDevs.
