The Dell sales department will start working in the office 5 days a week

Most of Dell’s sales force will no longer be able to work remotely. They are instructed to return to the office from Monday. Management explains the decision as a desire to “increase productivity” and “build capacity.”

The new policy was announced by a Dell employee on Reddit, who posted a letter signed by Bill Scannell, Dell’s president of sales and customer experience, and John Byrne, president of sales at Dell Tech Select.

“The trading floor is a unique environment where incredible energy is combined with a culture of cooperation and improvement. To harness this energy and build capacity, our sales teams need to be in the office. In addition, our data shows that it increases productivity. Starting Monday, September 30, all members of the sales team who can work from the Dell office will be on site five days a week, regardless of position,” the letter said.

Executives also clarify that an exception will be made for a “permanent remote sales team” and that employees should wait for further clarification.

Like many IT companies, Dell has implemented remote work mode during the Covid-19 pandemic. In February 2024, management required employees to come to the office 39 days per quarter (or about three days per week). The possibility of remote work remained, but at the same time, according to ArsTechnica, remote employees were deprived of the right to a March salary increase. Despite this, almost half of the staff remained remote.

Earlier this month, Amazon required all of its employees to work from offices five days a week starting in 2025. Currently, they need to be present in the offices for three days. Departments have until January 2 to adapt to the new policy.

According to a letter from Andy Jesse, CEO of Amazon, employees must be in the office full-time in most cases, except in situations that require a special approach or if they are given a special exemption from the manager.

The only division of the company that will not follow this policy will be Twitch, due to a lack of office space for all staff.
