The Chinese developer of processors for neural networks Sophgo offered Russian companies the creation of joint products

The Chinese company developing processors for neural networks, Sophgo, offered Russian computer manufacturers to create joint products. According to experts, Sophgo’s solutions may be of interest to companies developing artificial intelligence technologies. Although market participants have doubts about the effectiveness of the partnership with the Chinese company.

Sophgo develops tensor processors used to train neural networks. The company intends to supply chips to Russian computer manufacturers. In January, Sophgo sent market participants a proposal to create a joint product based on Chinese processors.

The manufacturer offers tensor chips and central processors of its own development on the open RISC-V architecture. Sophgo operates more than ten research centers in China and other countries.

The head of “Norsi-Trans” Sergey Ovchinnikov stated that Sophgo does not have motherboards designed for Russian solutions. He notes that domestic companies will have to create components on their own, which will take at least two years and several billion rubles.

Oleg Izumrudov, director of the Consortium of Russian Data Storage Systems Developers, stated that Sophgo mainly specializes in processors for AI acceleration, and the company has its own work algorithm. Analogues are produced by Nvidia, AMD and Intel, the expert explains. According to Izumrudov, currently the II market is at the initial stage of development, as well as the development of tensor processors for this technology.

Currently, there is no single standard leader in the field of software algorithms and hardware accelerators on the world market, so American and Chinese developers have the same prospects in this direction, Izumrudov summarized.

Sophgo processors may be of interest to “Yandex” and “Sber” – both companies use AI in their products, stated the head of VisionLabs, Dmytro Markov.
