that prepares the market
Hello, Habre! We’ve all found ourselves in 2024, so it’s time to find out what the manufacturers of gaming devices, good and different, have prepared or are preparing. After all, you need to rest, not just work. Today we will evaluate various consoles from both Chinese companies and Western manufacturers – there is a lot to see there. Details, as always, below.
Mega 95 – with original cartridges from Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
Personally, I really liked the project of the Hyperkin company, which developed and presented a prototype of an interesting portable console. It is a modern device compatible with the original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges.
It looks almost like a controller from these consoles, only with a five-inch screen in the middle. Probably, if gamers of the 90s were offered such a device, they would give anything for it. The author of this article in his time was so accurate. Yes, sure, I’m aware of the Sega Game Gear and the Nomad, but the Mega 95 just looks cool, and it’s a prototype for nothing.
It is unlikely that anything will change much in the final device. The device has a built-in battery that allows you to play up to 10 hours without recharging.
In order to charge the battery, you need a docking station with USB-C, to which, by the way, you can connect additional controllers. The docking station allows you to display images on the TV. In general, almost Nintendo Switch, only with a touch of vintage.
Unfortunately, neither the cost nor the release date of the device is yet known, but the manufacturer promised to inform about it in the near future.
Claw by MSI – an alternative to Steam Deck?
And this is a much more productive device, which is designed to run modern games. As far as we can tell, this is a competitor to Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and Valve’s Steam Deck at the same time. The device is based on the processor of the Intel Meteor Lake family, namely Intel Core Ultra 7 155H with 16 cores and 22 threads.
The chip is a hybrid of P-cores and E-cores. As for graphics, Arc Alchemist with 8 Xe cores is responsible for it, the frequency of which can be increased to 2.25 GHz.
As far as we can understand (there is no detailed information yet), the dimensions of the console are approximately equal to the dimensions of the ROG Ally. That is, it is a 7-inch screen and almost the same dimensions of the body. The resolution of the display is 1920 × 1080, it is an IPS LCD with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Some buttons are programmable, so you can use specific macros in different games. As for the OS, the device will come with Windows 11.
More details will be announced at CES 2024, which will be held from January 9 to 12 in Las Vegas. There is also no data on the cost of the device, but one must think that all the important nuances will be told at the conference.
An unusual device that offers gamers a remote game when connected to other devices. That is, for example, on the screen of a portable console you can see a game that is installed on your own PC, but you don’t want to spend time sitting on a chair in front of a monitor and TV.
Something like cloud gaming, only when connected to nearby devices. Perhaps the cloud gaming of the device is also under control – there is not much information yet. The display of the set-top box has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, the battery lasts for about 3.5 hours of operation.
The set-top box comes with a compact PC that is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840H processor, DDR5 RAM and two PCIe Gen 4 M.2 slots.
The dimensions of the mini-PC are 243 × 195 × 65, it comes with a 100 W·h battery. The developers claim that the battery will last for about 12 hours of work or play. If you don’t save resources, then for 3.5 hours.
The system comes with Windows 11, the device supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless communication. In general, the idea is unusual – perhaps the device will find its own audience. The price is still unknown, so we will have to wait until more details appear.
Terrans Force Handle 5
And this, one might say, is quite a typical portable console from China. It is equipped with a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. As for the chip, it’s an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U with 8 Zen 4 cores and 12 RDNA 3 GPU cores.
The cost of the device is already known, but not low. So, for a configuration with 16 GB LPDD5-6400 RAM and 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, you will have to pay about $1,000.
The dimensions of the device are 256×113.5×22.5 mm, and the weight of the console is 688 grams, which is a lot. The device is also equipped with two 40 Gbps USB-C ports, a slot for microSD cards, a gyroscope, a wireless module with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5 support.
AYA Neo Next Lite
Finally, another interesting device is the AYA Neo Next Lite, which is a portable game console with a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels. The difference from other devices of this kind can be called SteamOS instead of Windows.
It is worth noting that it is difficult for Chinese vendors that produce powerful game consoles to compete with Valve, Asus, Lenovo and MSI. The fact is that large companies manage to keep a relatively low price threshold due to the scale of production. But the Chinese don’t do it that way, as evidenced by the console described above.
As far as can be understood, AYA Neo Next Lite is released as a mid-range gaming device, the price of which can be compared or even lower than the price of devices of large companies. But it is still difficult to say how productive it will be, since not many details are known.
As for the controls, there is everything a gamer needs: D-pad, analogues, regular buttons and additional ones. The cost of the device is about $899.
