The engineer-manager of the development team of the Swift programming language Holly Borla (Holly Borla) said that Swift 6 will be released this year instead of Swift 5.11. The message about this appeared on the official Apple forum dedicated to the programming language.

A forum user asked about the Swift 6 release date to plan for the transition. He suggested that the company may not release a major update until late 2024 or even early 2025.

Joining the discussion is Holly Borla, Apple’s managing engineer on the Swift development team and contributor to the SwiftLang open source project. She reported that the main work on the implementation of Swift 6 has already been completed. The team remains to make a few minor suggestions regarding parallelism in Swift 6. Otherwise, the new version of the programming language is ready.

Swift 6 will be released in 2024, replacing Swift 5.11. All references in the codebase to version 5.11 will be updated to 6.0 in the near future.
