shortage of personnel in microelectronics of the Russian Federation will amount to 50 thousand people by 2030

The head of Oschadbank Herman Gref predicted a shortage of 50,000 specialists in the field of microelectronics by 2030. He also called this industry “the most complex technology of mankind”, reports RBC.

“There is no field more complex than microelectronics. And the production of chips, on the basis of which everything around us works today, literally everything without which it is impossible to organize any kind of human activity today, no matter what it touches,” said Gref at the plenary session of the Russian forum “Microelectronics 2024” in Sochi.

He emphasized that the issue of financing the industry in the conditions of a high key rate is “very difficult”.

“Therefore, in fact, all financing tools for microelectronics enterprises are connected in one way or another with four key state programs. Of the 3,000 companies that make up the microelectronics sector, about 50% are our clients,” said Gref.

In 2023, approximately 147 billion rubles were allocated for the development of microelectronics. In October last year, Denys Manturov stated that 210 billion rubles are planned to be sent to support the industry in 2024. He also noted that the government plans to achieve a 70% share of domestic products in microelectronics by 2030.

Gref emphasized that the preservation of tax regimes, <...> and expansion of subsidy programs from the state.” He also mentioned China, the United States, South Korea and Europe as countries in which the financing of the microelectronics industry is built “on very large infusions from the state, multi-billion, many hundreds of billion-dollar programs.”

“Of course, we will have to unite and support the sector in one way or another. But the support of the sector begins when there is such an entrepreneurial spirit in it, there are many enterprises, very advanced and enterprising people, and we are doing well with that,” says the head of Oschadbank.
