Research Institute “Polyus” named after M.F. Stelmaha engaged in the development of domestic radio photonics

Research Institute “Polyus” named after M.F. Stelmaha of the Shvabe holding (part of Rostec) has started creating complex laser information systems, the press service of Rostec reports. The selection of a new direction should allow conducting large-scale research and using the latest developments to create radio photonic systems in wireless and satellite networks, laser rangefinders, antennas on airfields, radars and gyroscopes. It is planned that the development of radio photonics will contribute to the transition of the telecommunications industry to the transmission of extremely large volumes of information at speeds exceeding current values.

By the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the institute is defined as a base organization of the defense industry, which carries out scientific activities on the development of radio photonics technologies.

Yevhen Kuznetsov, doctor of technical sciences, professor and general director of Polyus Research Institute, was appointed the head of the new direction. By decision of the Government of the Russian Federation Polyus Scientific Research Institute named after M.F. Stelmaha became the basic organization of “Rostech”, which develops radio photonics.

In May of this year, Polyus Research Institute developed a solution to increase the accuracy of pulse rangefinders and eliminate the risk of their false positives. According to the data provided, the patented method reduces the probability of errors in calculations by 18 times.
