Reproduction of entities that have to be managed

It hides in the little things. The power of small things in numbers.

In the article “Increasing the difficulty of increasing the intellectual labor productivity”, I noted that one of the factors that complicate the increase of the productivity of intellectual labor (ILT) is the factor of the multiplication of entities that have to be managed (operated).

I described the essence in chapter 2. “The main essence of management – “TASK”” in the article “The concept of “essence””.

The question arises: how does the proliferation of entities make it difficult to increase PIT?

After answering, we will understand that the word “must” in the first paragraph of the article is key. This means that this escalation factor (PIT) exists objectively, inexorably affects the organization, and we cannot ignore it. So, we have to take into account when managing the organization if we want it to survive.

I will give a definition.

The essence is not a specific object, but a TYPE of object, the integrity and individuality of existence during the term “life” of which are determined (outlined): by a functional purpose and a list (set, set) of universal (essential, individual) NAMES, not values attributes necessary and sufficient for its identification and separation from other types, in the presence of which an indefinite number of specific objects belong or do not belong to this type.

So, today we are in such a situation where further technological progress leads to the fact that the entities that we have to manage in our daily activities are multiplying day by day. Previously, these entities did not exist in principle, but now they exist, we cannot do without them, and they must be managed. And new entities appear again and again.

I will give a simplified example from marketing.

Previously, to promote products and services, it was enough for organizations to advertise in a newspaper and place contacts in a directory like the “yellow pages”. After which they only needed to occasionally update the contacts in them if they changed (which happened very rarely) and that was it. That is, the organization operated with one entity – “advertisement”.

And now, again due to technological progress and the increasing complexity of the world and organizations, in addition to this, it is necessary:

  1. create and administer a website for Internet promotion,

  2. establish regular formation and updating of content and key phrases on the site;

  3. create and administer digital channels of influence (DCI) – groups or pages in social networks,

  4. adjust the publication of posts in the Central Committee;

  5. create and administer groups in messengers (in instant messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.)

  6. to set up regular e-mails, for which it is necessary to create, fill and maintain a database of customers and their e-mail addresses;

  7. to set up regular SMS mailings, for which it is necessary to create, fill and maintain a database of customers and their mobile phone numbers;

  8. regularly develop, place and update advertising digital banners,

  9. invent and conduct various interactive activities on the Internet: promotions, surveys.

  10. etc.

We see that as a result, new entities have appeared: site, TCC, group in social networks, group in messenger, content, keyword phrase, post, e-mail distribution, SMS distribution, client’s cell phone number, client’s e-mail address, digital banner , interactive event, etc.

And for the successful promotion of products and services, organizations now need to manage all of them – operate them: create, administer, update, update, etc.

If we take the area of ​​software development, such entities as:

  1. classes,

  2. precedents,

  3. knots,

  4. components,

  5. subsystems,

  6. interfaces,

  7. and more.

Within each entity described above, many specific objects are formed. And all of them must be managed simultaneously.

There may be several sites, the content is completely clogged, the posts are dark, and the number of customers is very small, and their e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers are myriad. After all, each client has more than one contact person, each of them has several contacts: phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

At the same time, everything changes, including multiplies. Electronic newsletters and SMS newsletters should be sent after each significant event, and there may be many of them; interactive events – for every information occasion – there are even more of them. It often happens episodically – sporadically – not always, by chance, sometimes, sometimes, unpredictably.

Not infrequently, these are very small entities that require the performance of one task and, within its framework, 3-5 actions. But there are many of them. They have many specific objects. And they must be kept under control. They all need to be operated on.

If we refuse to do this, then our competitors will overtake us if they in turn do all these things. There are no options, you need to accept all this and manage it all. In order not to fall behind and disappear during the struggle for survival.

For the most part, these are intangible (non-physical) entities, often abstract, therefore, entities that relate to the field of intellectual work. Work involving intellectual tasks[1]. That is, the performance of various analytical and mental tasks related to the processing of a large volume of various information, using the intellect and, as a result, mobilizing the brain: memory and attention.

After all, only with the help of the brain can we operate with immaterial (non-physical), especially abstract entities. For example, such as “tasks”. At the same time, it should be remembered that intelligence is the ability to create a new quality from standard elements, using knowledge and erudition. We can say that with the help of intelligence we create new entities.

And this is a condition that seriously complicates intellectual work, primarily managerial work.

After all, the operation of all these entities implies the performance of intellectual tasks already in relation to them. And this is again intellectual work. And the more entities, the more you have to work. From here, new requirements for increasing the productivity of intellectual work appear.

As a result, we get

Technological progress leads to the fact that every day there are more entities that we have to manage. Previously, these entities did not exist in principle, but now they exist, we cannot do without them and they must be managed. For the most part, these are intangible (non-physical) entities, often abstract, that is, entities that relate to the sphere of intellectual work. Work involving intellectual tasks. We can say that with the help of intelligence we create new entities. Operating with all these entities implies the performance of intellectual tasks already in relation to them. And this is again intellectual work. And the more entities, the more you have to work.

I have already introduced the concept of “process entity (PS)”[2].

In the future, I will describe that in order to operate a process entity within the framework of process task management (PW)[3] procedure registers (RP) must be used[4]. In short, I will show how to cope with the problem of the reproduction of entities that have to be managed.

There is another factor that increases the complexity of increasing PIT – it is resource-intensive and energy-consuming intellectual work. But this is already a factor from the field of biology.

Here, looking ahead, I will only say that the Registers of procedures invented by me reduce the energy consumption and needs “in the working memory of the brain” associated with remembering what needs to be done in a particular situation regarding process entities (PS ) and their specific process objects (KPO). With Procedure Registers, you don’t have to remember it – and waste energy on memorization and recall. That is, you will not have to strain your brain (memory) because of it. And, therefore, you will save its energy. And use it for other needs.
