Release of the cross-platform open multifunctional archiver PeaZip 10.0

On October 26, 2024, the cross-platform open file manager and archiver PeaZip 10.0 was released. The source code of the project is written in Pascal (Lazarus/FreePascal, InnoSetup is used for Windows builds) and published on GitHub under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0. Under the hood, PeaZip 10.0 uses Pea 1.2 as the default backend, the project is compiled using Lazarus 3.4, while the source codes are still compatible with the Lazarus 2.x series. PeaZip project version 9.0 was released in December 2022.

With the free tool PeaZip, Windows, Linux and Mac users can open a total of 234 file extensions as archives or their variants, including 7z, ace, arc, bz2, cab, gz, iso, paq, pea, rar, tar, wim , zip , zipx and so on. The project works with component archives (001, r01, z01, etc.), supports several standards of archive encryption and file hashing. The PeaZip project is localized in 30 languages.

The PeaZip 10.0 source code includes various UI and CLI improvements, as well as fixes for previously found bugs.

Fixes and additions in PeaZip 10.0:

• updated GUI, including increased icon sizes, updated themes and compression settings, and more organized user menus.

• the file tools menu has been improved and expanded to now save checksum/hash data results in a GNU Coreutils compatible format and analyze a file’s hash on the Internet for known malware.

• the backend of the project has been updated to 7z 24.08 and Pea 1.20.
