Podcasts will be introduced on the YouTube Music platform “in the near future”. This was announced by Kai Chuk, Head of YouTube Podcasting at the Hot Pod Summit.

On YouTube Music, you can listen to episodes in the background with ads for free. The platform will also offer “advanced library tools.” So far, the company has no plans to add exclusive shows or licensed original podcasts.

The number of YouTube Music and Premium subscribers reached 80 million in 2022. With the introduction of podcasts, the platform intends to compete with Spotify, which has more than 200 million paid subscribers.

Chuck McLendon, Google’s head of podcasting products, said the new feature in YouTube Music will help develop content creation tools for creators.

Back in 2021, the media reported that YouTube would launch a podcasting direction on the platform. Youtube Podcasts was supposed to be the fourth such application by Google. The first was Google Listen based on the Google Reader RSS service. Then came the Google Play Music Podcasts program, which was discontinued after the closure of Google Play Music in favor of YouTube Music.
