Perseids: how long will the stars fall and where is the best place to observe them in Lviv
Perseid Meteor Shower: A fascinating natural phenomenon takes place this month that amazes observers with its sheer number of shooting stars.
The Perseids are one of the brightest meteor showers, created as a result of the collision of the Earth with the remnants of the Swift-Tuttle comet. Usually, these are small particles of dust and stones that enter the Earth’s atmosphere, heat up to very high temperatures and, burning, become bright shooting stars.
No special equipment is required to observe the Perseids, only an unobstructed view of the sky, preferably away from city lights and other sources of artificial lighting. The blacker the sky, the more meteorites can be seen.
The greatest activity of the Perseids falls on the night from August 12 to 13: then the maximum number of meteors can reach up to a hundred per hour. However, if someone missed the peak of the shooting star, they still have the opportunity to see the celestial wonder until August 24.
In Lviv, the best location for observation is Leva Mountain (Bald Mountain).
