multiple debiting of funds for one trip to customers occurred due to a technical failure

At the end of September 2024, Yandex Taxi reported that users were repeatedly charged for one trip in some regions of the Russian Federation due to a technical failure. The company returned money to customers. Moreover, in some cases, this amount reached 180,000 rubles (the amount of the order was 572 rubles, and the aggregator debited it from the client’s account 315 times in a row).

Earlier, clients told the mass media and on social networks that the taxi aggregator had been deducting money from clients’ cards for non-existent trips for several hours. At the same time, no SMS messages were received about debiting money. Freezing the card did not help, operations continued to work.

Yandex confirmed the incident and reported that a similar problem affected several hundred users. The company explained that the cause was technical problems, adding that so far, all erroneously debited funds have been returned to customers.

“Now the service is working normally,” Yandex Taxi reported to the media. The aggregator apologized for the inconvenience and assured that measures are being taken to prevent this from happening again.

Experts advise not to tie the main bank cards to taxi services, but to use virtual cards with restrictions or (if possible) to pay the fare in cash.
