Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint released for Meta Quest VR headsets

Microsoft and Meta* announced the launch of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro VR headsets. Previously, the companies similarly rolled out support for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Microsoft office apps for VR devices can be downloaded from the store. The applications can be used by owners of the Oculus Quest headset, as well as later models of Meta virtual reality glasses.

The Android Central portal has published a short video demonstrating the operation of office applications with Meta Quest. The author also shows how Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs can work in parallel in virtual reality.

The programs are designed to work in mixed reality, so users continue to see what is happening outside the headset while writing documents in Word, creating spreadsheets in Excel or presentations in PowerPoint.

Microsoft and Meta announced a virtual reality collaboration in October 2022. The companies agreed to roll out support for Microsoft Teams on Meta Quest and other Microsoft solutions, including Outlook, Microsoft Intune and Azure Active Directory.

Microsoft is also developing Office and Teams apps for Apple’s new Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Sales of the corporation’s VR glasses will start in early 2024. The cost of the solution will be $3,500, but Apple is working on a more affordable version of the headset, which, according to rumors, will cost between $1,500 and $2,000.
