Microsoft has updated the version of Teams for virtual desktops
Microsoft has released an updated version of Teams for users who connect to virtual desktops using Azure Virtual Desktops or Windows 365. The release note notes that the virtual desktop version now uses the same engine as the desktop app. This will allow developers to add new features faster without the need to upgrade the infrastructure.
The previous version of Teams for virtual desktops powered by WebRTC will no longer receive major updates. Only bug fixes will be available to users. So far, the company has not announced when it will stop supporting the old version and close it completely. There are also plans to add support for macOS and Linux, but the timing has not yet been announced.
Microsoft has released a guide with questions that system administrators in companies may have. There are also detailed instructions for those who decide to switch to the new version.
