JSC ChMZ has developed the technology for the production of the case for the transmitter of the photon measurement and control system “Kactus-2V”

Short description

Chepetsk Mechanical Plant, a subsidiary of TVEL fuel company, has developed a casing for the “Kaktus-2B” low-altitude photon measurement and control system. This system is placed on the descending devices of manned spacecraft and measures the height of the device, issues commands to start the soft landing engines and adjusts their operation depending on the speed. The gamma-ray altimeter equipped with a source of ionizing radiation serves as the system’s basis, and a case (manufactured by Chepetsk Mechanical Plant) protects the cosmonaut from radiation during landing. The workpiece is processed on CNC machines using virtual three-dimensional models.

Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (JSC ChMZ) (part of the TVEL fuel company) has developed the technology for the production of the case for the transmitter of the low-altitude photon measurement and control system “Kaktus-2B” for soft landing. This system is placed on the descending devices of manned spacecraft. The tested samples were sent to the Central Research and Development Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics.

The “Cactus” system non-contact measures the height of the descending device to the surface and issues a command to start the soft landing engines and adjusts their operation depending on the speed.

“Cactus-2B” system

The basis of the system is a gamma-ray altimeter equipped with a source of ionizing radiation. A special case (manufactured by JSC ChMZ) protects the cosmonaut from radiation. The parts of this case have a complex configuration and are made of material that provides reliable biological protection with minimal dimensions of the product. The protection is obtained by shaped casting, the workpiece is processed on CNC machines according to programs developed on the basis of a virtual three-dimensional model of the product.
