The National System of Payment Cards (NSPC) has developed a technology that will allow you to pay for purchases using a smartphone in the usual contactless way. The service was named “The Wave” and implies safe payment both online and in places where there is no Internet – offline.

“Our solution is that we provide contactless payment using this technology within a short range of the payment terminal. In essence, this is a payment identification method that is no longer available to us. On iPhones, for example. We are planning to launch such a service with banks in the future – colleagues are already coming to us who are ready to participate in piloting the technology, they are interested in it. I can say that already two dozen banks have come and are ready to take a look at this technology. In the future, we definitely plan to transfer this technology to banks after testing, so that they can integrate it into their mobile applications and offer citizens this payment method,” commented Dmytro Dubynin, director general and chairman of the board of the NSPK, in response to RBC’s questions.

The “Wave” service is implemented on Bluetooth Low Energy technology. “Wave” can be integrated into the bank’s payment service or mobile application. The technology provides secure payment and, unlike NFC, “Wave” can be paid at a slightly greater distance from the terminal, without worrying about the position of the smartphone. According to the developers, the technology works in conjunction with a new type of payment terminals that support Bluetooth.
