In iOS 18, there is a new option that allows you to continue playing sound while recording a video

iPhone users who have updated to iOS 18 can record video while playing audio. An innovation noticed by the MacRumors portal allows you to add a soundtrack to a video without transferring the clip to a video editor.

In older versions of iOS, when a user opened the camera app and started recording video, any sound that was playing would be muted, even if it was played through wireless headphones. In iOS 18, there is an opportunity to change this behavior.

The new feature is available in iPhone Settings > Camera section. Here, the “Allow audio playback” switch has appeared in the “Record sound” section.

If this option is activated, sound will continue to play while the video is being recorded, and if the sound is played through the speaker, it will be picked up by the iPhone’s microphone and recorded along with the video. If the sound is played through headphones, the video will not appear.

A similar possibility existed in older versions of iOS with QuickTake, which allows you to shoot video in photo mode by holding down the shutter button. Video quality, however, is limited to 1440p instead of the 4K available in video mode.
