Two moments that didn’t work out

  • gently lower the first step (it was twisted before lowering and it probably collapsed because of it)

  • pass through the dense layers of the atmosphere of the second degree – at the return stage – there the communication was interrupted at an altitude of 65 km – hell and hell. What exactly happened, I hope we will find out later.

Other flight objectives are accomplished

  • successful start

  • successfully passing the point of maximum aerodynamic resistance

  • successful hot split ladder

  • a successful first-stage turn followed by restarting the engines and returning to the landing area

  • successful entry into non-locked low Earth orbit (set of declared speed and altitude)

  • successful demonstration of the operation of the door for the payload (opened and closed – everything worked)

  • successful demonstration of cryogenic fuel pumping

  • a successful maneuver of the ship before entering the atmosphere (allegedly there was a problem with starting the ship’s engines, but this is not accurate)

The entry into the atmosphere was magical for a while – the pictures from the rocket cam impressed all the viewers of the live broadcasts. No one has ever seen from the side of the plasma burning around the ship when decelerating at space speed in the atmosphere. It was always believed that the signal is not able to break through the plasma. But the signal strength of the Starlink satellite communication system, through which the information message with the ship took place, turned out to be so strong that the signal also penetrated through the plasma.

It is a pity that as a result the ship did not survive this stage. I hope that the developers will determine the reason. And I hope the cause is eliminated.

It is also not known what kind of license the FAA issued to SpaceX on the day of the flight – just this particular flight, or a series of 9 flights this year. But, regardless of this, the new stack is ready for the next flight. It remains to figure out what improvements need to be made to the design, based on the experience of the third flight. And this, in my opinion, is the most important thing that will determine the time interval between the 3rd and 4th launch.
