How to become a programmer at the age of 14 and fulfill your first freelance order?

Greetings, my dear readers! In the first article, I would like to talk about my experience in overcoming the thick barrier for a schoolboy called “IT”.
Topics we will cover:

  • How and where to start at 14 years old?

  • How not to be lazy and continue on your way?

  • How to start earning what I like?

How and where to start at 14 years old?

Actually, the answer to this question is very ambiguous. Think first: “What do I want?” Good question, isn’t it? For me, the answer has always been the ability to create. I really like to do something new, especially if it is used by a certain audience.

My first interests were focused on creating chatbots, for example, for the VKontakte social network. These were simple robots in a simple constructor, built from simple logical chains. My pride at the age of 9 was the “Anonymous Chat” bot. By not eating school lunches, I was able to pay for hosting and advertising for my community. Then came my first money. Of course, my salary was no more than five hundred rubles a month, but for a boy in the third grade, it was money for which he could not ask his mother for any amount for the next two months.

As a result, I dropped it for two or three years, and when I was older and in puberty, I started learning my first programming language. It was Pascal. Yes, that’s him. No, of course, this does not mean that you should learn it, because this language is basically outdated. It is much more promising to learn python, and even better C++, because knowing the “pros”, you will be able to learn other programming languages without any particular problems.

So, knowing Pascal, I started writing simple console programs, learning the peculiarities of syntax, variables and various constructions. A revelation for me was the type of bool variables. At first, I didn’t understand why I needed a variable that can hold only two values (true and false), but you will realize this with practice.

Boolean logic

Boolean logic – This is a complete system for logical operations. It was named after George Boole, an English mathematician from University College Cork who first defined the system of algebraic logic in the mid-19th century.

So, which language is right for you? In fact, there is room to roam.

Comment

I like math, logic problems and difficult solutions.

Python, C++, C# and other languages designed to work on the user’s PC

Are Python, C++, C# and other languages targeted to run on the user’s PC?
It cannot be argued that many NAPs have the opportunity to be used in other parts of the project.

I love to draw, create beautiful articles, great sites.

HTML(Not YP as such, because it is a standardized hypertext markup language), CSS(Also not YP, it is a formal language for decorating and describing the appearance of a document (web page) written using a markup language. If it is simpler, it is an additional tool for work with html)

What makes writing websites not IT?
Creating a beautiful and user-friendly website requires a special level of skills. If you like it, then welcome to the world of frontend!

I like some of the sites on the other side.

JavaScript

Oh, this backend. The internal part of the site will always be interesting, because various processes take place there, which an ordinary user will not see. Usually, the backend is very dependent on the frontend.

I love games.

Unity (C# plugin), Unreal Engine (C++ plugin)

I have a couple of games on Google Play, so I can say with confidence that you won’t be able to earn much more from this at first than specialists in other fields. Breaking into gamedev is difficult. I advise you to start with Unity, at the same time understanding C#, and then you will understand what you want 🙂

So, we have decided on the YP, let’s move on.

How not to be lazy and continue on your way?

Sooner or later, burnout will start to catch up with you. So I gave up learning C++ and broke away from the deadline for a month.

How to deal with it? Any. This is natural and completely understandable. Of course, it won’t be a problem for your customer or boss, but you won’t be able to do the work that burned you out. In this case, only time will help you. Take your time, don’t beat yourself up. Sooner or later (if it’s not about work, of course), the world itself will remind you of your passion, and you’ll return to it.

But don’t confuse feeling burnt out with a complete lack of interest. If you don’t like what you’re doing, don’t even try to force yourself, otherwise you’ll throw your computer out the window or delete all the programs you were working on 10 minutes ago while running Dota 2. Why not delete? Again, it’s human nature to confuse your feelings, only time will help you.

How to start earning what I like?

Here we come to one of the most interesting topics for us.

Let’s start with what will bring some profit now. It is enough to go to the freelance platform and view the services that are needed by customers in your specialty.

At first I developed games on the Unity engine, then I began to specialize in the development of parsers. Gradually the skills grew, and now my programs include parsing using literally all of my knowledge. Any complex program is a collection of easier ones.

And how to start learning, for example, this or that library in conditional Python? The answer is obvious – Google. Google absolutely everything! From banality like “how to crack Google” to more complex tasks.

If you are interested in data parsing, I recommend you to familiarize yourself with BS4, Selenium. It is also useful to learn how to work with Excel tables. Knowledge and understanding of Telegram bots will be a plus. To do this, you should familiarize yourself with telebot.

Results

In this article, I introduced you to my own work experience at the age of 14. Now I have grown up and realize the mistakes of my early youth, that is why I decided to write this article.

The main thing is not to be afraid to start, and then everything will go like clockwork.
