how the system of fast payments is organized

The evolution of payments has reached the point where we can transfer each other’s lunch money and pay for food delivery while lying on the couch, and businesses can accept payments for goods or services sold, pay contractors and pay employees’ salaries with just their phone number.

Completely imperceptibly, we passed the moment when cash began to disappear from use together with savings books. After all, once upon a time we did not believe that “every kiosk will be able to pay by card.”

In the article, we will talk about how the symbiosis of the “Mir” card and the Quick Payment System works for buyers and entrepreneurs.

Two sides of one System

In 2014-2015 and earlier, in order to make a payment at the bank, you had to go to the bank with cash and a passbook, give them to the teller and “print” the payment on a paper document. At the same time, we used bank cards. Somehow imperceptibly, we went to online banking and started transferring money to each other in seconds. And then they generally started getting cards for children and asking relatives not to give them cash, but to send money to the account. In this way, you can protect the child from losing money and at the same time control his expenses.

On December 15, 2015, the “Mir” payment system was launched. It took about a year to develop. It has become an alternative to Visa and Mastercard. In the summer of 2021, the system surpassed global competitors in covering the population of Russia, the “Mir” map became the main one for 42% of respondents.

In 2019, the system of fast payments – SBP was launched. Although it seems to some that she has been working for a very long time.

The symbiosis of SBP and Mir cards continues to develop. From savings books, we went online, then we got the Russian payment system and the Quick Payment System, which simplifies the lives of citizens and entrepreneurs.

Did you pay attention to the SBP signs at the cash registers in stores? You can point the camera at the QR code, or put the phone to the NFC-tag (yes, now even with an iOS-based smartphone you can pay again). Cashiers often overlook this information during internal training and wonder how the customer was able to pay for the purchase by touching a smartphone.

SBP through the eyes of customers and businesses

do you like coffee For many Homo customers, this morning drink has become a tradition, so their way to work (sometimes even freelance) passes through a coffee shop. To pay for your favorite drink, you can touch the SBP NFC tag with your smartphone, point the camera at the QR code, or use a bank card. These tools cover all financial needs. Now it makes no sense for you to go to an ATM and withdraw cash.

Or a friend bought you coffee, and you want to pay for it. It is enough to know his phone number and the name of the bank to which a person wants to receive money, because several banks can be linked to the number. There are no BICs, account numbers and other bureaucracy, no commission for transferring up to 100,000 rubles to another bank either.

SBP also simplifies receiving money when returning goods. Let’s say you bought 2 tons of boards in a construction store, paying for the purchase through SBP. Two tons turned out to be a lot, and you returned one. And here the money is returned to the buyer’s account in seconds. Most likely, this will happen even before the cashier finishes the sentence “Keep the check, the funds will be returned in N days”.

Now let’s look at the process of buying coffee from the side of Homo Entrepreneur – the owner of the coffee shop.

When you pay for a purchase by card, the money does not arrive in the account immediately, but with a timeout of about a day. It is about clearing.

Clearing is a set of mutual settlements for services rendered to each other, goods sold or securities based on non-cash settlements. Accordingly, clearing in the payment system is mutual settlements for any transactions carried out using a bank card. We wrote about this earlier.

You can give such an example:

  • “Bank Odin” owes “Bank Tor” 1 billion rubles for transactions per day (because the cards of the first bank were used to make purchases in the store at the terminals served by the second).

  • “Loki Bank” owes “Bank Odin” 5 billion rubles (because “Loki Bank” serves organizations that bought building materials for the construction of houses from companies served by “Bank Odin”).

  • Loki Bank transfers 1 billion rubles to Bank Tor, and 4 billion rubles to Bank Odin.

And this process takes about a day. Thus, instead of several operations, we get an “optimized” process with one-moment but delayed settlement. This is called clearing.

Paying through SBP using a static QR code at the counter, a QR code on the terminal screen or a link in the chat allows businesses to get paid here and now. SBP does not have this timeout and the money comes to the account within a few seconds. And this is live money that an entrepreneur can immediately spend on business needs:

  • pay salaries to employees;

  • buy equipment and products,

  • pay rent, resources, etc.

An entrepreneur can immediately pay salaries to employees and couriers by phone number. There is no need to enter the details of the bank, TIN, full name of the recipient – the process becomes as simple as transferring money between individuals.

And a very nice bonus is that both an individual and a business can pay using the QR code through SBP. The owner of the coffee shop calmly goes to the wholesale base, stands in line with other customers and buys coffee beans from his business account.

If everything is clear with coffee, is it possible to buy something more expensive with the help of SBP? At the moment, there is a limit on transactions through the system – 1,000,000 rubles for one transaction. That is, you can easily make a purchase of this amount anywhere and anytime, or make a larger purchase through several transactions. For example, buy a car.

Bonuses for people and businesses

Have you had cases when the subscription to the service was “doubled” or when you simply did not know why money was being taken from the card? Let’s say you linked the card to a service where you can watch your favorite series. Then they stopped using it. The password was created automatically on an old laptop, it broke and you forgot about it. In the case of SBP, the user gets the opportunity to manage payments for all his subscriptions – online cinemas, services, deliveries, etc. in one bank application.

The era of “Where the subscription was issued, go there!”

And, of course, the user receives cashback for paying for purchases through SBP and participates in various promotions. For example, for shopping in grocery stores or plane tickets. You can find out more about them on the website of the loyalty program.

If a user’s mood is improved by cashback, for a business this tool is an opportunity to increase profits through customer loyalty. Here’s how it works.

A business can accept payment from a customer via a bank card. In this case, you will have to spend money on acquiring, which can reach 4–5%. Or accept payment through SBP — the commission for business will be many times lower. The company can return part of the saved funds to the buyer in the form of cashback. It’s kind of like a way to say to everyone, “Thank you! You’re cool! Here is a small complement from us. At the same time, each business decides for itself whether it is worth increasing customer loyalty with the help of cashback and, if so, what should be the size of this cashback.

Therefore, the business can dispose of the funds in a few seconds after the payment, saves on acquiring and affects the loyalty of its customers with the help of cashback. In addition, instead of an expensive terminal, its configuration and maintenance, it is enough to place an NFC tag or QR code on the cash register – an ideal payment tool for small businesses.

It is important to understand that special attention is paid to the security of payments. First, all QR codes are registered in the NSPK. Secondly, when paying, the user always sees the details of the recipient. Thirdly, transactions carried out through the SBP are protected in accordance with all information security standards at the level of the Bank of Russia, the NSPK and participating banks.

The evolution of payment methods once began with barter, continued with shells and round stones to human height (we are talking about stone paradises), animal skins, coins and paper money. We are now living in the era of digitization of many processes, and this is especially noticeable in the example of payment systems.

Payment cards and SBP are one of the most convenient payment methods today. SBP gives advantages to both buyers (thanks to cashback) and entrepreneurs due to savings on acquiring and instant receipt of funds to an account without clearing, the ability to pay employees and purchase necessary equipment and products.

In your opinion, in what direction should payment systems develop? Try to model the future – write your opinion, and we will give nice gifts for the most interesting examples!
