Google may block the development of Google Camera ports / Habr

Gizmochina journalists reported that Google may block the development of Google Camera ports in Android 15. This is because the company has now completely switched to using its own mobile processors and can make some functions and applications exclusive to Google Pixel.

Google released a preview of Android 15 in mid-February 2024. Pixel 5 smartphones will not receive the update. This, according to journalists, may hinder the porting of Google Camera to other smartphones running Android. Currently, all current smartphones of the company work on Tensor processors of its own development.

This will allow Google to completely limit the operation of some functions and programs on third-party devices. In addition, developers can remove the Qualcomm DSP support used for image processing on Qualcomm processors. This means that even if you succeed in porting Google Camera, the image processing time may increase significantly.

Representatives of the publication note that Google has not officially announced such plans, but this is a likely development of the event. Now the company does not support Snapdragon-based devices, so it may begin to gradually abandon the implementation of functions of third-party processors.
