Google made five improvements to the work of the Chrome address bar / Habr

Google has announced five improvements to Chrome’s address bar to help users use the browser faster and more accurately.

  1. The URL autocomplete option just got smarter. Now it will take into account any keyword previously used to search for the site, not just words that match the beginning of the address. For example, the autocompletion of the address https://www.google.com/travel/flights will work not only when entering the word google, but also when entering flights.

  1. An option to automatically correct typographical errors when entering the site address has been added, as well as the display of relevant tips, which take into account the sites previously opened by the current user. For example, when typing the word youtube, the user will be prompted to open YouTube.com. This change is already enabled for all users of the current version of Chrome.

  1. Added search mode in bookmark sections through the address bar. For example, you can enter the name of a bookmarks section and Chrome will suggest links from that section that match the keyword you entered. For example, typing 2023 trips will suggest links from the relevant bookmarks section related to travel.

  1. Implemented the output of recommendations of popular sites, even if the user has not visited them before or made a mistake when entering a string from the URL. For example, when following someone’s recommendation to open Google Earth, the user started typing googleear without knowing the exact address, then the Chrome browser will offer to go to earth.google.com. This change is already enabled for all users of the current version of Chrome.

  1. In the desktop version of Chrome, the reading of information in the address bar has been improved and the interface has been made more responsive, now the results are displayed almost immediately after the URL is started.
