Google has introduced a real-time scanning feature at the Google Play Protect code level
Google has updated its Google Play Protect service, which protects against malicious software on Android. The service received a real-time scanning function only at the code level.
Google Play Protect is a built-in protection against malicious and unwanted software that is enabled on all Android devices with Google Play services. Play Protect scans 125 billion applications every day, and when potentially dangerous software is detected, it can perform a number of actions, from sending a warning to the user to prohibiting the installation of the program.
Real-time code-level scanning extends Play Protect’s capabilities.
“Play Protect will now recommend real-time app scanning when installing apps that have never been scanned before to help detect emerging threats,” Google said in a blog post.
The scan extracts the necessary signals from the application and sends them to Play Protect’s server infrastructure for code-level evaluation. After the analysis is complete, the user will receive a message about whether the program is safe. Google hopes the update will help better protect users against polymorphic malware that uses various methods, including AI, to avoid detection.
The Google Play Protect update has started rolling out to Android devices running Google Play Services in India. It will be available in all regions in the coming months.
