GoDaddy and Identity Digital will launch the GlobalBlock domain blocking service

Domain registrars GoDaddy and Identity Digital have announced the launch of the GlobalBlock domain blocking service. The service is intended for rights holders, it will allow them to block the registration of domains that coincide with the names of protected trademarks. Blocking of company names and celebrity names is also being considered, according to Domain Incite.

The premium version of the GlobalBlock+ service will also cover similar titles. In addition, it includes a Priority Autocatch feature that will prevent the infringing domain from being re-registered if the previous owner has not renewed the registration.

GlobalBlock subscription is expected to be more profitable for rights holders than protective registration of names in many domain zones.

GlobalBlock is powered by GoDaddy’s AdultBlock and Identity Digital’s DPML and will cover more than 650 generic and national top-level domains. GlobalBlock pricing and an initial list of top-level domains will be published in early January. The subscription price is scheduled to increase every six months as new domains are added. The price of the public version will be published on February 15.
