four Xbox exclusive games are coming to PS5 and Nintendo Switch

It’s official: Microsoft is bringing some exclusive Xbox games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This is part of a broader change in strategy in the corporation’s gaming business, The Verge reports.

“We have decided to bring four games to other consoles,” Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said on the official Xbox podcast.

The corporation did not name those games, but sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans say they are Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, with Sea of Thieves and Grounded coming later.

“I have a fundamental belief that over the next 5 or 10 years, exclusive games (games that are exclusive to one piece of hardware) will be a smaller and smaller part of the gaming industry.” Spencer said on the Xbox Podcast.

Rumors suggest that Microsoft’s ambitions for cross-platform gaming run much deeper. Yes, Starfield is being considered for PS5, and there’s also the possibility of Indiana Jones launching on PS5 a few months after the Xbox launch.

Not every Xbox game will appear on competing consoles, but Microsoft is clearly considering more in the future. According to The Verge, these are Gears of War, Microsoft Flight Simulator and the new DOOM.

Xbox President Sarah Bond also announced that Activision Blizzard games will begin appearing on Game Pass on March 28, when Diablo IV joins the catalog.

The head of Microsoft’s game content and studios department, Matt Booty, once again assured that all future Xbox projects will be available in the Game Pass library from day one, and Game Pass itself will not go outside the Xbox ecosystem.

Bond also mentioned exciting things in hardware that the company will announce before the end of the year, and the next generation of Xbox. It promises the biggest technological leap in console history.

According to Booty, Xbox has more than 10 major game releases planned for 2024, with a number of projects still in development. The company will talk about this and more at its Xbox Games Showcase in June.

So why would Microsoft launch Xbox exclusives on competing platforms? The company talks about the need to develop Xbox to ensure the long-term success of both Xbox and the industry as a whole.

With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s gaming business has become bigger, but Xbox as a whole still needs to grow. Sales of Microsoft’s Xbox Series S and X consoles are lagging behind Sony’s PlayStation 5, and Spencer has previously admitted that Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have indeed slowed. Therefore, Microsoft uses the opportunity to place its games everywhere, or Xbox Everywhere, as the company calls it.

The next steps of Microsoft management depend on the reaction of Xbox fans.

“I always take feedback from our most passionate fans very seriously.” Spencer admitted.

Microsoft Gaming has grown far beyond Xbox. Now the company is starting to really show off what the Xbox Everywhere vision is. If Microsoft succeeds, it could change the way the entire gaming industry looks at creating games.

We previously reported that Microsoft is laying off 1,900 employees in the Activision Blizzard and Xbox divisions. This is part of the plan to implement a sustainable cost structure.
