Phone season is in full swing. The Oppo-owned smartphone maker has just unveiled its latest flagship, the OnePlus 12. The premium phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that Qualcomm introduced late last year, TechCrunch reports.

OnePlus includes what the manufacturer calls the Trinity Engine “an advanced proprietary platform that intelligently unlocks the full potential of smartphone hardware.”

This is a system on a chip that is combined with 12 or 16 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the memory will be 256 or 512 GB.

The battery has a capacity of 5400mAh and charges from zero to 100% in half an hour using the included 80W charger. Meanwhile, wireless charging takes about twice as long.

There are three cameras on the back: a 50-megapixel wide-angle (with optical image stabilization), a 48-megapixel ultra-wide and a 65-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom up to 120x.

OnePlus also talks about a new HDR algorithm. The company says that the algorithm “knows what he sees” and can adjust the light and shadows accordingly.

This appears to be a reference to AI-based image recognition, so the device knows, say, when it’s filming another person.

The new “Basic Mode” provides additional options to the OnePlus Pro Mode feature, including adjustments for contrast, saturation, sharpness and hue.

OnePlus is also touting a more “authentic” portrait mode thanks to Hasselblad sensors and algorithms. The Emerald Flow design is a nice bonus and OnePlus/Hasselblad know how to make a good camera.

The OnePlus 12 is now available for pre-order. It will go on sale on February 6 starting at $1,070 for the 12GB/256GB model and $1,200 for the 16GB/512GB model. Flagship features at flagship prices.

If that’s too expensive, the smartphone’s “little brother” called the OnePlus 12R (which replaced last year’s OnePlus 11) starts at $500, less than half the price of the OnePlus 12.

The main difference between the two is that the OnePlus 12 comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor system. On the other hand, the OnePlus 12R comes with the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which was also used in the OnePlus 11 and other phones last year.

OnePlus has had a difficult history. The brand started as a company that sold phones with flagship specifications at fairly low prices, but today OnePlus phones are similar to the competition in terms of both price and features.

ProIT previously reported that iPhone 16 may have a new button for focus and zoom when shooting video.

We also reported that the iPhone 15 Pro is “more popular” than its predecessors.
