Elon Musk will pay Wikipedia $1 billion if it takes an obscene name

American billionaire Elon Musk has offered the online encyclopedia Wikipedia $1 billion if it agrees to take the obscene name Dickipedia (from the English word “Dick” – an analogue of the expletive “x*y”).

“I’ll give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia” – wrote the businessman on his own social network X (formerly Twitter).

Musk’s generous offer follows his previous tweet, where he criticized the Wikimedia Foundation for asking for so much money. Yes, the day before, the head of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, once again announced the collection of donations to support the site.

“Ever wonder why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? They are definitely not needed for work Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So what is the money for? Inquisitive minds want to know.” – said Elon Musk.

After that, as noted, X users themselves tipped off Musk that the free news organization was processing “more than 25 billion page views per month and more than 44 million page edits per month, requiring significant operational costs.”

The Wikimedia Foundation also employs third-party financial auditors, whose reports are publicly available.

This is not the first time that Elon Musk and Wikipedia have butted heads. In May, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales criticized Musk for his decision to restrict access to certain content on X ahead of Turkey’s presidential election, according to Business Insider.

The newspaper also reports that under Musk’s leadership, the social network has become more compliant with government demands for censorship and surveillance.

ProIT previously reported that Elon Musk wants to make Twitter (X) paid.
