Elon Musk is studying the possibility of introducing sports betting into X
Fortune has learned that online gambling subsidiary BetMGM of MGM Resorts International is discussing a possible partnership with X (ex-Twitter). Elon Musk has plans to bring online sports betting to his social network.
The journalists do not yet have information about the financial terms of cooperation, but the publication is sure that the companies intend to implement a new function in X in the near future — the demonstration of betting coefficients with a direct link to BetMGM, which allows users of the social network to make bets.
In connection with the information, Fortune reminds us that the final game of the NFL playoffs, the Super Bowl, is only two weeks away, and live broadcasts of significant events have always been X’s strength. For example, during the broadcast of the Super Bowl in 2015, the platform collected a record 28, 4 million tweets. However, after X owner Elon Musk laid off most of the company’s staff, the social network began to crash during high-profile, high-traffic events. For example, during the Super Bowl broadcast last year, about 1,000 users reported problems with X on Downdetector.
MGM Resorts International is engaged in the hospitality and entertainment business; and is valued at approximately $15 billion. In July 2018, the company announced a partnership with British gambling operator GVC Holdings, resulting in the creation of BetMGM, which is set to take over the American sports betting and online gaming market.
