Disney decided to abandon Slack after a large-scale data leak

Walt Disney Company has decided to abandon the use of the Slack service after a large-scale data leak that occurred in July. The leak exposed more than 1 TB of confidential messages and files located on the company’s internal communication channels.

According to CNBC, Disney has already begun the transition to new “optimized tools for enterprise-wide collaboration” and sent out emails to employees this week saying the transition will be complete by the end of the company’s next fiscal quarter. It is not explained what the tools are.

In July, the company faced a major leak: hackers hacked the company’s Slack and stole 1.1 TB of data. They said they managed to steal all messages and files from nearly 10,000 Slack channels, including information about upcoming projects, information technology, finances and other sensitive information.

A month earlier, another leak occurred at Disney: 2.5 GB of corporate data was stolen from the company’s Confluence server.

In 2022, the hacking group Lapsus$ hacked Uber’s Slack server using stolen employee credentials. In August 2023, hackers hacked Activision’s Slack server and stole information about upcoming games.
