Discord has opened up the ability to create games and apps that run within the platform

Discord has released a public version of its Embedded App SDK, which allows you to develop native apps and games for the platform. Previously, this opportunity was opened only to a small number of developers.

The company announced that access to the Embedded App SDK will open on March 18, 2024. Third-party developers will be able to release their own internal applications and games, available to all users of the platform. Discord previously featured YouTube, a collaborative whiteboard, and poker with this SDK. These applications and games were developed by programmers selected by the platform team and given early access to all the necessary tools.

Along with this, the company talked about testing a new way to share programs and games on the platform. The blog noted that if a user finds an interesting program on a server, he can easily transfer it to his own server. This feature will be available on March 18 with the SDK.

Developers can already offer ideas for their programs and games. Discord plans to fund the most interesting of them. You can get up to $30,000 in total. The company hopes that this will help to interest programmers in new features of the platform.
