different tasks, different architectures, very different prices

Manufacturers of single-board PCs continue to work on the creation of various models. At the same time, they are really different – for developers, office, DIY projects, etc. We have added some interesting recent models to this selection. If you have your own device options that haven’t been mentioned, please let us know in the comments. The most interesting thing is under the executioner.

Firefly ROC-RK3588-RT

This device is very similar to the Raspberry Pi, but has more features. Yes, the device has three Ethernet ports at once, which automatically makes it the number 1 contender for work as a network device. On the other hand, it has 3 more HDMI ports, so you can connect multiple monitors to it.

In addition to everything, the device was equipped with its own eMMC memory and a card reader. In addition, there is a connector for M.2 2242 or SATA storage. And that’s not all – the device received an NPU with 6 TOPS.

It becomes clear that with such a number of functions, the price of the device should be higher than that of “Malynok”. And it really is, its cost is $229.

As for other capabilities and characteristics, the size of the device is 108*75 mm. Well, it is based on the Rockchip RK3588 processor. It has 4 Cortex-A76 cores, 4 Cortex-A55 cores and Mali-G610 MP4 graphics. By the way, the maximum configuration of the device is 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. And here is the list of ports and connectors:

  • 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet
  • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1 x HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz)
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0 (4K@60Hz)
  • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-C (w/DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode for 8K@30Hz video)
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A

The developers also provided an M.2 2230 slot for wireless WiFi 6/BT 5.0. Debian, OpenWrt, Ubuntu and Android 12 are supported.

Geniatech XPI-3566-Zero

This device looks almost like a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. But it has a faster processor, an improved wireless communication module, eMMC memory and support for more RAM than the Raspberry Pi. But it also costs more than the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W.

If we talk about the characteristics, the 1 GHz Broadcom BCM2710A1 has a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with VideoCore IV graphics. So Geniatech has a 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A55 processor with Mali-G52 2EE graphics.

The dimensions of the device are 65 x 30 mm, there is a mini HDMI port, a MIPI-CSI connector and a 40-pin GPIO. This board also has two USB-C ports. Supports the device and wireless communication, with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. It also supports LPDDR4. The younger model is equipped with 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. Older – 8 GB RAM 128 memory. As for the cost, the following options are currently available:

  • 2GB RAM / 8GB internal memory for $49
  • 4GB of RAM / 32GB of internal storage for $69

A good single-payer for a more or less acceptable price.

BeagleV-Fire

Here we have a board based on a RISC-V processor that is designed for developers. Size – 86.4 x 53.4 mm. The Microchip PolarFire MPFS025T FCVG484E chip is installed as a processor.

In addition, the board is equipped with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, as well as a number of ports and connectors:

  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-C
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1 x M.2 E-Key
  • 1 x microSD
  • 1 x MIPI-CSI 22-pin
  • 1 x SYZYGY
  • 2 x 46-pin BeagleBone Cape
  • 1 x 6-pin 3.3V UART
  • 1 x JTAG TAG-CONNECT

The board comes with Linux OS pre-installed.

Radxa Zero 3W

Another interesting board with a size of 65 x 30 mm and a Rockchip RK3566 processor. Graphics – G52-2EE. The cost is only $15 (depending on the store). Here are the characteristics of the device:

  • Processor: Rockchip RK3566
  • RAM: from 1GB to 8GB of LPDDR4 memory
  • Internal memory: microSD and optional eMMC 5.1 (from 8 to 64 GB)
  • Ports: 1 x USB 3.0 Type-C, 1 x USB 2.0 Type-C OTG, 1 x micro HDMI
  • What else: 40-pin GPIO, MIPI-CSI
  • Wireless: WiFi 4, BT 5

As for the cost, here is what the manufacturer offers:

  • 1GB RAM / without storage – $ 15
  • 1GB RAM / 8GB eMMC – $20
  • 2GB RAM / without storage – $ 20
  • 2GB RAM / 16GB eMMC – $30
  • 4GB RAM / without storage – $30
  • 4GB RAM / 32GB eMMC – $45
  • 8GB RAM / without storage – $45
  • 8GB RAM / 64GB eMMC – $65

The board supports 1080p/60 image output.

Simply NUC Onyx

Here we are talking about a much more powerful board than those indicated above. Usually, the company sells mini PCs, but this board is intended for those users who agree to just a board without a case. The cost, however, is high – from $619 and above.

But the configuration is sufficient for working with almost any tasks, Intel processors help to cope with them. The user can choose Core i5-13500H, Core i7-13700H, Core i9-13900H.

The size of the board is only 117 x 112 mm. As for RAM and internal storage, it’s 8GB DDR5-5200 RAM and a 256GB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD. If possible, you can buy a device with a large amount of memory or internal memory.

Here is the list of ports and connectors:

  • 2 x HDMI 2.1
  • 2 x USB4 Type-C
  • 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet
  • 1 x 3.5mm
  • 1 x microSD

Intel AX210 wireless communication module, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 are also optionally supported.
