Dell is investigating claims of a data breach after a hacker leaked employee information
Dell has launched an investigation into the recent data breach that came to light this week. On one of the forums, a hacker with the nickname grep said that he had stolen the data of more than 10,000 company employees.
According to grep, Dell suffered a “minor data breach” in September 2024. In a post on a hacking forum, the attacker claims to have been able to gain access to the full names of Dell employees and partners, unique identifiers and employee status.
He released a small portion of the data for free, the rest can be accessed by spending 1 BreachForums credit worth about 30 cents.
“We are aware of these claims and our security team has already begun an investigation,” a Dell representative told BleepingComputer in a comment.
It is worth noting that on September 9, this user published data that he allegedly stole from the large French IT company Capgemini. The set includes source code, credentials, private keys, API keys, employee data, T-Mobile VM logs, documents, and more.
For Dell, this breach is also not the first in a year: in May, the company reported the leak of 49 million customer records. The leaked data included order details, warranty information, and customer names and phone numbers.
