A Reddit user with the nickname Key-Hyena5292 demonstrated the capabilities of ChatGPT’s updated voice mode. The system can now copy accent and manner of speech.
The chatbot was asked to change his accent to Indian, introduce himself as Alex from Microsoft and pretend to be a phone scammer. ChatGPT coped with the task and played the role of a scammer from India. The speech model first talked about a virus that was distributed by criminals, and then asked for a bank card number.

In the comments, users ironically say that due to neural networks, whole departments dealing with phone fraud may soon lose their jobs. Neural networks are cheaper, can work around the clock and are not afraid to take risks.
OpenAI presented the updated voice mode at the end of September 2024. It added the ability to choose one of five voices (three female and two male), support for user instructions and memory.
