CD Projekt RED will stop supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in The Witcher 3 after May 17, 2024

Studio CD Projekt RED announced, which will end support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The company will stop releasing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt updates for these OS versions starting May 17, 2024.

From this date, the studio will stop testing the game on the specified operating systems, as well as providing support to users in the event of the release of updates after May 17.

In turn, Microsoft stopped releasing patches for Windows 7 back in 2020, and stopped supporting Windows 8.1 in 2023. However, the end of support does not mean that The Witcher 3 will stop running on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Players simply won’t be able to install updates that may come out after that date for new operating systems.

The studio recalled that it published instructions for returning to older versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CD Projekt RED has not yet announced when full support for the game will end. The studio promises to release an official mod editor for The Witcher 3, but the release date has not yet been announced.

On January 1, 2024, the Steam game store stopped supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. New versions of Steam released after this date will only work on Windows 10/11 PCs.
