Canonical has published a development plan for the Ubuntu Desktop distribution
The Canonical company talked about the future development of the Ubuntu Desktop distribution. The developers announced the changes that will be introduced with the release of Ubuntu Desktop 23.10.
They will include:

support for a larger number of devices (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Raspberry Pi and others based on Arm, as well as cloud);

a more complete and intuitive interface with a new application manager;

automatic installation for configuring desktop images via Cloud-init;

mosaic mode for dividing the screen into four working parts to facilitate process management;

hardware acceleration of video encoding and decoding in Chromium Snap;

a new request mechanism that asks users to grant and manage additional permissions requested by apps;

experimental implementation of full-disk hardware encryption in the Ubuntu installer with TPM (Trusted Platform Module) for performing cryptographic operations;

porting Netplan network interfaces to Ubuntu Desktop.
The company is also working on Ubuntu Core Desktop on the Ubuntu Core platform.
Canonical notes that Ubuntu Desktop has more than 6 million monthly active users and is the most popular Linux distribution for developers.
