Baidu’s Ernie AI chatbot will appear in the new Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones
Baidu AI Cloud is integrating its Ernie chatbot into Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones, which will allow users to translate calls in real time and will bring many other features, reports CNBC.
Ernie is the Chinese tech giant’s answer to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot capable of generating human-language responses to user prompts.
“Now thanks to Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, the updated Samsung Note Assistant can translate content as well as summarize long content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button, optimizing the organization of large text.” – says the company’s statement.
It comes a week after Samsung revealed its latest Galaxy S24 lineup with artificial intelligence features, as the South Korean electronics giant tries to overtake rival Apple.
The company was not among the top five smartphone vendors in China. Instead, Apple became China’s largest smartphone vendor by shipments in 2023, with a 17.3 percent market share in the country, IDC data showed. Honor took second place with a market share of 16.8%. It is followed by Vivo, Huawei and Oppo.
Ernie 4.0 was launched in October. Baidu claims it’s “the most powerful version of Ernie’s base model to date,” with full understanding, generation, reasoning, and memory capabilities.
Additionally, Ernie 4.0 capabilities are stated to be as advanced as OpenAI’s GPT-4 models.
“It has been greatly improved over the online version of the Ernie bot. Now it is not inferior to GPT-4″, CEO Robin Li said at the Baidu World 2023 event in October.
In late December, the company announced that the Ernie bot had surpassed 100 million users just 4 months after it released its chatbot to the public. In comparison, ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users just 2 months after launching in November 2022.
Baidu shares have fallen 7.53% since the start of the year amid media reports that the People’s Liberation Army-linked cyber warfare watchdog had tested its AI system on Ernie. Baidu denied this information, saying that they “do not cooperate with this organization.”
According to market research company IDC, this year more and more artificial intelligence functions will be integrated into personal devices, including smartphones, thanks to advances in semiconductor technology.
ProIT previously reported that Galaxy AI will not be free for long. It is already known when you will start paying for it.
