Apple has simplified the rules for creating third-party app stores after criticism from developers

Third-party iOS app stores will now be able to launch any developer with a good reputation. Initially, Apple required applicants to have at least 1 million euros in their account.

At the end of January 2024, Apple presented a list of changes that it intends to introduce in the territory of the European Union. The company planned to allow developers to launch their own app stores, publish their products in them, use third-party browser engines and the NFC module with any payment services, not just Apple Pay.

Initially, Apple required that developers who want to open their application store have at least 1 million euros in their account. Otherwise, the company would deny this right. This decision was criticized by developers, noting that Apple only created the appearance of freedom on the platform.

In early March 2024, Apple released the iOS 17.4 update with all the promised features, but changed the rules for creating third-party app stores. Now they can be launched by developers who have an application with a number of downloads in the territory of the European Union exceeding 1 million per year.
