Apple has sharply reduced the production of Vision Pro
Apple has sharply reduced the production of Vision Pro mixed reality headsets since the beginning of this summer, Information writes with reference to the developers of gadget components. According to them, the corporation will probably stop production of the current version of the headset by the end of this year.
Sales of Vision Pro started in February this year. However, after the initial interest, sales of the gadget went down due to the high cost and competition from more affordable options.
If the cost of Vision Pro starts at $3,500, then the Meta* Quest 3 headset will cost $500.
Officials at Vision Pro’s three suppliers said they have so far produced enough components to produce 500,000 to 600,000 headsets. One of the interlocutors of the publication noted that his factory suspended the production of Vision Pro components in May of this year.
According to one of the sources, Apple has warned its contract manufacturer Luxshare that in November the company will probably have to curtail the production of gadgets. Luxshare produces about 1,000 Vision Pros per day.
In the summer, Information wrote that Apple is working on releasing a more affordable version of Vision Pro with fewer features. The release of the device should take place next year. By the end of the summer, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman also talked about the creation of a budget version of the headset. According to Information, Apple has suspended development of the more advanced and expensive version of Vision Pro.
Apple has asked suppliers to prepare for the production of 4 million low-cost headsets.
